What We HAVE Done

You know, I'm going to focus on what we have done in the past 2.5 years, and not what we haven't... We have rescued 148 pit bulls - all of which were spayed/neutered; given all vaccinations and rabies booster; dewormed; on heart worm preventive; micro chipped; and more. We helped rehome countless others. We gave advice and helped dogs stay in their current homes. We've educated many people on how to interact with dogs, how to read dog body language, how to promote good behaviour, and deter bad. We've created and sold unique SPBR merchandise to fund 70% of our rescue efforts. We've created a safe haven for any pit bulls that make it into our rescue. We match dogs with potential new adoptive families, not just to someone with money. We promote spay/neuter and responsible ownership, in all cases. We have offered our knowledge from over 30 years experience with the pit bull breed to help educate and inform. We are advocates for the breed we love. We built a sanctuary for dogs that possibly will never be adopted - as there are a few dogs we've had 2.5 years, and some almost 2 years...just waiting on their forever homes. For some, this is just that. We are Shaw PBR...we are here, day in and day out, 365 days a year, feeding, cleaning, building, watering, evaluating... We've done good, for two people with full time jobs and a handful of volunteers.

I will not dwell on the fact that some choose to ignore what we have done and instead focus on what we have not. They believe we have not done enough, that we could do more...yet they do not 'do'. They believe we could take in every dog we are contacted about, yet they do not volunteer. They believe we should have a fully functional indoor facility with full time staff and vet care, yet they do not donate or offer veterinary discounts or assistance. They believe the rules don't apply to them, but they should.

But the dogs? They believe. And us? Well we believe. We have to. There are 29 dogs currently in our direct care counting on us. We can't disappoint them. Although those that think we don't do enough have done just that.

Mission Statement

Our goal is to provide abused, abandoned or homeless pit bull dogs with the medical attention they need; as well as the love and attention they deserve to heal - both emotionally, and physically.

We will work to facilitate the rescue and placement of abused or abandoned pit bulls into responsible homes and participate in fundraising to provide veterinary treatment; spay/neuter; food and shelter.

We are dedicated to fostering responsible pit bull ownership through education, adoption, and breed advocacy.
