Attention anyone who would like to give up all personal time to rescue!!

You must be able to answer calls, emails, messages and any tags on Facebook at a moments notice, or you will be deemed as “never being able to be reached”.

If you want to take the day off for anything - think again. Personal time - even on holidays - doesn’t exist... New Year's Eve? Nope, not happening!  You must be willing to drop everything at a moments notice to pick up the phone to speak to a multitude of people wanting to dump their dogs; organize work days; printing issues; legal issues...

You also need to be on call all the time... like a doctor who gets paid the big bucks (you will not get paid, but will be on call all the time). You will need to check your emails (around 50 per day); rescue emails (20 per day); be willing to answer Facebook messages on your personal account and keep it updated with what you do for the rescue and dogs; answer the messages on the rescue page and update it; we have Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, RescueMe and other adoption sites, as well, that need to be updated weekly. 

You will have to monitor all the dogs in the rescue, hoping that you haven’t forgotten to do something that is needed for one because you are so overwhelmed with everything else. You will need to update bios, and take new pictures so you can update PetfFinder, etc. You will be a groomer, too, as every dog will need to groomed every 6-8 weeks.  You will be a vet tech so that daily/weekly/monthly medication can be given out. You will be doing ear cleanings on all dogs at least once a month.  You will be a professional poop scooper, garbage man, dishwasher for all the dog bowls, and you will need to mow the grass weekly and keep all bugs and pests at bay.

Adoptions - don’t forget about those, you will need to go through every application, call every reference, schedule meet and greets and finalize any adoptions.

Also you will need to be ever on alert to address any and all BS that goes on Facebook because once someone says something you have to drop everything and consume your day and precious time devoting it to proving them wrong, and even then it doesn’t matter because the damage is done. Nevertheless, you will still need to stand up for what is right. You will need to defend the reason why you work with pit bulls, why you didn’t take in a dog, why you didn't respond quick enough, and all the other things that the rescue has to stand on guard against (which is a lot).

You will have great people to assist you along they way, people who volunteer to help with what they can. However no matter what, you will be giving all of your time... you won’t get personal time... and as much as you try so hard, you will forget things - yet people will not let you forget that you forgot. No one will take into account that you are just that overwhelmed with things that you are too exhausted and perhaps you just don’t have the energy. People will judge you because you didn’t get back with them ASAP when they texted, PM'd, emailed, or called.  Perhaps the reason you didn’t is because you were simply too busy...

Very rarely will the armchair warriors thank you for doing what you do. But that will come from the dogs, because that is why you would do this.
