Long Days...Hatred...Understanding

Our days are very long... not just the hours and physical work, but the emotional drain we experience with every call, message, and comment; especially constantly dealing with anti-pit bull zealots and battles within the 'rescue' world. There aren't many moments out of our day that aren't spent planning our next move or dealing with issues.

The hatred we endure each and every day - from all sides - wears us down and puts us on the defense quicker than it should. We (the breed, limitations, etc) are blamed constantly and that seems to be ok; yet when we turn it around and suggest the problem might lie with 'them', then we are stupid, rude, etc. We have been 'attacked' by more humans than we could ever count...

But, we do it for the dogs. And although we complain, we wouldn't have it any other way (well, maybe less drama, lol).

However, because of this enormous amount of time we choose to devote to our mission, we no longer have much time for anything else. I don't do much freelance anymore because the majority of my time is devoted to Shaw PBR. And honestly, my heart really isn't in it (graphic design) anymore - it is 100% in the dogs we love.

To our friends and fellow rescuers that fully understand this, Thank You. It means so much to us that you accept that and support us wholeheartedly, even when we're not able to return your calls or spend as much time with you as we would like. It's not that we don't want to - 30 dogs are relying on us to take care of them - and we won't fail them. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone that gets it wink emoticon

Mission Statement

Shaw Pit Bull Refuge is a sanctuary dedicated to providing pit bull type dogs with safety, compassionate care, medical attention, nourishment, and unconditional love for as long as they need us.

 

We believe every dog deserves to live with dignity and to know what it means to be safe, loved, and wanted. Whether an Adopt-a-Bull ultimately finds a responsible forever home or remains with us for life, we are here for good.

 

Through responsible adoption, education, advocacy, and community support, we strive to create a better future for pit bull type dogs and the people who love them.

 

Our success isn't measured by how many dogs we save. It's measured by how well we care for the dogs who are already ours.
